I recently had a need to get the first item in an item group (Picking a nunit runner from the nuget package folder of an unknown version) and wrote an inline task for it.

Great stuff. I’ve been trying to think of a way to get the fist item from an msbuild list for a while. And amusingly the reason I want it is the same as yours – to find the nunit test runner.
